I have a 2000 reg zafira 1.8 16v.

It's the x18xe1 engine, it starts on the button and idles perfect. No engine management light on.

It drives but is massively underpowered, put your foot down it bogs down then slowly revs but it's like it's being choked.

I have checked the timing and it's spot on.
It has a brand new cat converter and full new exhaust fitted.
Fuel filter is brand new.
EGR valve is recent and has been blanked off (plunger can still move freely)
Throttle body is recent and it's clean.

I have unplugged the AFM and the symptoms don't change so ruled that out.

Any other ideas? Fuel pump maybe?

It's not the coil pack or ht leads or anything mate? Check all the sensors or looked for any vacuum leaks?

Try a coil pack,my coil pack went faulty on the x18xe1 and didn`t thro up a fault code(no eml).fault sounds the same aswell,it was fine on idle but you had to rev the hell out it to get it to go anywhere.

Took bottom pulley off, it had been put on wrong, timing is out by a tooth, the notch in the crank is bent out of shape, the notch is the pulley is damaged as well.

Lets see if we can fix this

Bought it like this mate.

Gna set it in the correct place, drill it n put a high tensile bar in to keep it in situ.

If it fails, i'll just break the car it only owes £300.

Is the key in the crank damaged then?

I had to replace my crank because of this

Sorry to hijack the thread but how did you go about fixing yours and how much did it cost John?

My mums 1.6 MK4 Astra has just been diagnosed with the same problem and has been quoted £2500 to fix it. I presume they're going to be replacing the crank etc at that price but they did also say about welding it.

We did it at a mates garage.

He set it in the correct place, drilled it and tapped a high tensile bar in to lock it in place.

Cost me £90 and it's perfect now.
