I dont think houses are cheap up here, I just think some parts of England prices are very unrealistic, and unsustainable for the residents there and the wages people are likely to earn. (i.e. Joe public, not self made company directors with stock and share portfolios).

That said you can also spend 400k on a 4 bed house here, just there bigger and fancier, thankfully you can also get one sub 200k that's good enough.

Agreed, some 3 bed detached new builds going up round here next a council estate and they want 250k for them could buy a cottage in the countryside for that

I just simply wouldn't live there if house prices are unachievable on a modest salary. Plenty other places to live.

I just make sure my outgoings aren't excessive enough that any job wouldn't be able to cover should the worst happen.

Yep. We been offered a mortgage that would need mine and the wifes wages to cover each month however we're opting for a cheaper/smaller house that one of us can cover alone (at a push) should one of us loose our job.

Decking is easy. Buy the stuff and do it yourself. Ive done four or five gardens now. Also its easier if your working on a hard surface and there is loads of tutorial type vids online. Just remember to leave enough gap between boards for swelling.

Without reading all the text I wonder what he did with the front of the house, kept the original garage door on just to confuse people?

Would look terrible if he just bricked it up with no window.

I think people normally leave the garage door and don't bother getting permission to do it.

we went to view a house that had a bedroom in the 'garage'. the garage door was still there and behind it was plasterboard. was rather odd.

2 people down my street have done the same but kept about a metre in depth to house wheelie bins, which is probably a better idea.

How do they open the garage door with only a metre depth?

I think I'd rather the extra metre in my house and just keep the bins outside.

Two have done it on the road we've just bought on too. Bodge job on the left, proper job on the right. I'd rather leave the garage door on than have that white monstroity on the left but defo a proper job over everything if I was doing it. That said, garage is useful for getting the shoes, coats, freezer, washer, dryer etc out the way, aswel as the car.

roll top door at a guess? the metre depth is just a guesstimate as i can only see inside when they have their garage door's open and when i'm outside.

but yes, the one on the left is awful looks like a separate entrance.

Been looking at an electric roll top for mine else I'll never end up using it for the car. £400 of eBay, can't vouch for the quality though
