Is there any truth in this apparent rule of being able to hand back a car purchased on hp after half the term without any black marks on your credit file?
Thinking about changing the Beemer later in the year and as it stands its probably got a few £k neg equity?
Is it really as simple as to hand it back 1/2 way through?

Yes.
I've done it.
They do charge you for stuff which isn't wear and tear though, they wanted £80 from me as one of the door cards had a nick in it and there was a mark on the bumper. I haggled them down to £35 
Not affected my credit rating at all.
You need to contact the finance company and tell them you want to do a Voluntary Termination, they'll send you an info pack!
Moneysavingexpert was good for me for a template for the letter to send.

Can you do it of ts a pcp and not straight hp?
I'm not too bothered if I have to pay a few grand to get rid of it but obviously would prefer not to! Mrs J wants a 4x4, who am i to stand in the way

Deposit was just a months payment up front - 350 quid.
Think I owe 18.5 and WBAC will give me 16.5 so I'm not miles away considering the lack of deposit.

Think he's stuck with it. I don't think you can even buy out the term as with finance.
Were getting on ok with the 3series, more fancy a change & something more robust. Wee things like the back seats being fixed don't make it very practical.

At vauxhall we used to openly tell customers this especially on 5 year deals to give customers peace of mind 'just in case'

Q5, seem quite expensive in comparison to kuga/crv and I'm struggling to see the benefit other than a badge in a car that will ultimately be used 90% by her to ferry the kids about and go to tesco once a week plus my occasional tip run.

Kuga's are great. My dads got a titanium in black with every optional extra. Panoramic roof is cool. Watch out for dodgy dpf's and sat navs messing up. Oh and the parking sensors sometimes suffer from water ingress.
