Functional strength. Rather do stuff like that raher than just lifting weights up and down.people need to spend more time worrying about the health of their heart rather than the size of their top half. Stuff like this will compliment weight training anyway through working on power and explosive strength.

Trouble is, if you're weight training properly, 4 days a week, it's critical the other 3 days are rest days.
I guess you could skip certain body part and do this 1-2 nights instead but I'd imagine doing both would be very taxing on your CNS.

If your 1 aim is purely to get bigger muscles then yes you are probably right it might be less effective to getting to your goal as it would disrupt that, then again you'll be hitting muscles with different movements in different ways so you might find the change of routine even more stimulating to your body, using parts that you'd not engaged previous.
Personally I think it's important to keep your body guessing and adding something g like this in once a week or every couple of week will do that. We do it on a sunday when football season ends and I really enjoy it.

I'd probably do it for fun and keep my hand in, regarding mobility and cardio if i was a big lifter- of which i'm not, doing a Half marathon in two weeks!

I don't think recovery days are that important, depends how you train. I know people who do 5 day splits
