Sabatier knives any good? I've heard they're as good as global for half the price. That sounds good... However i've googled them and get various types & names up. Judge, steller, richardson etc
I had a block of 5 global knives, which were decent. Around £170 at the time on offer, since then i've moved house twice and managed to lose a box full of kitchen stuff, so recently re-bought everything, but the knife set.
I'd ideally like a set that would include;
Chefs knife, paring knife, ultra thin slicing knife, good serrated bread knife, utility knife & cooks/smaller chefs knife. Not arsed about Cleaver, tomato peelers, de-boning etc etc.
Anybody recommend a set comprising of the above? Or individually for a non silly global price?
Thanks CS

How the fuck I managed to answer in your other three year old thread I don't know.
Anywho, we have Global set and a single Kai Shun chef's knife. Hardly ever use any of the Global knives.
My wife loves the look of them, but if it was up to me we'd sell them for something cheaper with a wooden handle. Don't like holding the Global's at all.
The Sabatier ones look decent. Reasonably priced as well.

The set John posted in the old thread are the ones I think I bought at the time.
They were decent, just don't see the point paying double for Globals when the Sabatier sets are half the price, but same great reviews.
They look awesome Alex, i'd be wary of having them displayed like that though, probably seen too many horror films

Looking at a few reviews I'd much prefer the Sabatier's.
Looks to be the same quality steel, but I can only imagine the handle will be much better.
No point in having pretty knives and storing them in a drawer.

Out old chef used some Henckels we bought.
Got them from makro. Not expensive and seemed fairly good.

Henckels (or Zwilling) do some awesome knives as well.
You just have to avoid their cheaper stuff as it's a bit pants really.

I'll still maintain that it's much better to buy one very expensive knife and a few cheap ones than buy all middle range.
A layered damascus chef's knife is really going to be the only thing you need.

My dad has a really nice set of Zwilling 7000D, managed a lovely deep cut first time he used one too!
I was told that Sabatier isn't just a brand as such, more a particular style of knife/knife making. It was a really boring chef telling me though and I sort of zoned out.

It's this one actually...
Was a wedding gift, though. Don't think I could bring my self to pay that for a kitchen knife.
