Having alittle clear out in the garage today and found this old oil can, it was my great grandads which would mean it is approximately 90years old, really cool handmade object, so set about cleaning it up, heres some before and afters

That's nice is that. I seem to see a lot of oldy worldy oil cans at autojumbles and a lot of the handmade ones have some real craftsmanship in them.

I was in two minds but i wanted to see the detail in the workmanship and i have no intention of seeing if it has any value (as i doubt it has). I personally want to clean it up some more including the inside as it still had some oil in, and keep it as an item to be passed through the generations.

The cleaning part was always going to be 50/50 but as i say its not going anyway and combined with my need for things to be clean it had to be done

Put the same information and pictures on another forum and had some great informative feedback. Apparantly its a Kaye's 1/2 pint oil can made in leeds in the 1920's sometimes used on trains but mostly used in the manufacturing industry for ship building. Then out the blue i got a reply to the topic from a guy with the username of Kaye, it was made by his dads great, great Grandad's manufacturing company.

id rather pass it on and let my children or there children become richer (but as i keep stating i don't think it is worth anything)
