What happens if you take your own car abroad, say, down through france or into germany etc... and you go through a radar type/photographic speed camera over the limit, and it flashes you.
Is it null and void? Unenforceable? Is it sent to the UK DVLA etc? Would you get dealt the penalty for that offence of that country, or of the UK?

I'm sure you get the equiv points and fine as if you were 'xx' over the limit here. We have mutual driving offence agreements with most other EU countries. If the camera is actually operational.

I never got anything from the Germans with my UK car. Been flashed a couple of times. They're trying to make EU speeding fines enforceable across borders but there is a legal hurdle in that UK police don't generally accept foreign evidence.
The fine and points system is totally different too, so there is no way to just "give the equivalent UK fine and points".

Been done in Germany and France by a few cameras. The police have no access to the DVLA system so they cant trace the owners to give the penalty. Only hire cars from the country or if the police officer catches you.

A friend of mine went to Australia and got done for speeding twice whilst over there. Luckily you only get 1 point over there so he got 2 points and a fine. But that was enforcable over here.

Australia is part of the sovreignty though, so that may be why.

There's no agreement or system in place for offences caught by speed cameras abroad. If they want to fine you, they have to catch you and issue the ticket there and then.

So it still applies if the officer actually catches you and fines you, but you don't get the points?

Will be a fine/jail/car impounded depending on what you've done. In France they issue on the spot fines, the Police carry portable EFT terminals for you to pay by card or you get escorted to the nearest ATM to get cash out if you've not got the money with you.

Just be careful where you speed. Germany's not bad, but Switzerland is harsh as hell. Guy I know just got an €1100 fine and 3 month ban from the country for 120kmh in an 80kmh. He wasn't far from the border so they actually escorted him out
