Why not F1? Too expensive to develop it for their needs?

I'd imagine that the transport links would need to be better for the mass crowds, and it'd be massively more expensive for the facilities needed.

so how much larger can F1 crowds be if they are aiming to hit the crowds for those events?

as i continue reading the report it would seem the max crowd size they expect (from motoGP) is 80k which is 50% of what Silverstone has seen

BTCC and WTCC is better racing than F1 anyway! Be looking forward to doing a track day there once its open

There's loads of conditions (like garage sizes, gravel and tarmac run-offs, onsite medical centres etc), and in turn cost, to meet Grade 1 standard for F1 hence them going for Grade 2.

Tbh i can see it massively flopping as not only is it in the middle of no-where and the surrounding road infrastructure piss poor, the track hasn't got any history to draw in the bigger international series. And none of our nation series really has the following to bring in the crowds to recoup any of the investment.

It's unlikely it'll every get Grade 1 status as the surrounding infrastructure is poor and the requirements for Grade 1 are extremely strict - it makes getting Grade 2 status a piece of piss and that's difficult enough (documents on this are freely available off the FIA site). At best, it might get 1T status which allows for F1 testing but there are better suited tracks/venues for this.
Even then in the event that Silverstone went down the pan, it's unlikely FOM/Bernie would even consider the track to hold the British GP as they're/he's more interested in getting F1 into new territories and would mostly likely pull the British GP completely (just look at the Silverstone/Donington fiasco) in favour of somewhere new.


If it get's built and doesn't end up like another Donington, then i don't doubt it be a decent track with brilliant facilities. But there's more against it than going for it and i can see it ending up as another trackday/minor motorsport venue.
