There is 8bhp and 8 valves difference between the two. If you want an easy to maintain engine, go for the 8v, if you want an engine for modding, go for the 16v.

they did a sri 8v at 89bhp and the 16v is 90 bhp
but i was thinkin that the 8v will have more torch and the 16v will have a betta top end???

yeah i agree with sam, i have the 16v and head gasket is a known problem, they arnt the strongest engine really...

The 8v SRi is 82bhp, I know this because they used the C14SE engine in other cars (for example, Nova SRi, and in my mk3 Astra).

This is correct, before they got rid of the SRi completely and brought out the 1.4 16v Sport!
