Wallpaper will be a pain when you want to paint it in future.

Bought house or rent?

Why not just paint all walls and paper 1 wall in each room/hallway? Doesnt look odd if you have different colours and wallpaper

The house settles, probably for years. Site manager just doesn't want you going back moaning if the paper rips.

if its been sat 16 months empty then the walls could have drawn in a bit of damp as well; living in it with heating and airing will dry it out. Only reason I can think of; I'd be shocked if the house moved enough to tear wall paper

Timber frame builds shrink more than traditional, but you will notice that more around door frames, skirting, staircase stringer etc more than anywhere else.

Stick a de humidifier in for a few days before hand . If I started seeing rips in my wallpaper after its been built 16 months I would be seriously worried

It's more to allow the plaster to dry out sufficenetly then the fact it might 'rip'

Same reason why they recommend not painting either as the plaster can't breath if using the wrong paint.

If its been sat for 16 months id just live in it for a month then do it, let any moister dry out ect from were its been sat, the actual plaster will have dried out a while ago
