My mate's Corsa c timing chain rattles when u start it up but then goes quiete. It losing its oil pressure. But then u can start it up 5 mins later and it's fine but if u leave it over night it will do it!But it had aoil pressure switch about a year ago.and he had a tensioner On the chain reasentley but it ain't fixed. Has anyone got any idea thanks!

What engine is it? Is he certain it's the timing chain? If the oil pressure is low then the hydraulic lifters will not be pressurised enough and will rattle.

It's a 1.0 3 pot. The oil light is on when u first start it up but then u can shut it of then it's starts fine again then but u leave over night and it will do it again. Would u suggest a new switch?

Ok if the car is losing oil pressure then the oil pump is on its way out. The evidence is that the rattling noise is most likely the hydraulic lifters and not the chain. If it were the chain it would rattle all the time, the fact it stops rattling means the hydraulic lifters are filling up with oil and working as they should. If they are taking a long time to fill up with oil, it means the oil pressure is down, which means the oil pump could be on the way out...

Oh and make sure it's had some new oil and a new filter before doing anything drastic with the oil pump.
