I've pulled the shitty fireplace and fire out of my chimney. I'd planned to just patch it up, skim over and mount my telly on it but I'm wondering if anyone can think of anything else to do with it for a bit of interest?

I'd love to, really love to but I rent my house from a friend so not willing to invest that much. The chimney dnt look in the best state so I reckon there's a few quid there

Electric fire would be the obvious. Otherwise i've seen a few people tile the fireplace and then stick flowers, candles, ornaments and what not there - can look ok.

Every electric fire I've seen has been epically shit, look ok but are crap at giving heat out.
Tidying it up but just not having a fire there is a decent shout, keeps the area as a bit of a feature.

Board it out and put a couple of shelves in there with the telly above it.
My dad did similar but with an alcove and it looks alright.

Tv with shelves underneath.
Have sockets hidden behind the tv as well hidding as much of the wires as possible.
keep the section of wall that sticks out a different colour to the rest of the walls.

This is what I did with mine. Sky box etc is in hole under the fire wich was the old fire place hole. I put a falce front over mine to hide all cables and makes it easier to run any more if needed in future.

My living room fireplace is in the same state as yours Gary! I went round the other day to find a pigeon had come down and was sat on window sill!
I've re opened my bedroom fireplace too - That will have a cast fire place put back in but will be blocked off. Living room will have a new fireplace put in and a gas fire fitted.
I would do the same, I don't like houses where they have boarded up fire places, they are features of the house that need to remain imo.

Well after living with the telly on the wall for a week ish I can happily live with it I reckon.
So, on to my next question. Where do I store my av stuff (receiver, ps3 and sky)? Old TV cab will look a bit shit, ideas?

Its all inside the chimney breast; has a small access panel on the side to get the everything (only have sky box there as don't have PS3 and DVD is in the soundbar) the have ran an IR extender down to it; will try and get some pics if you like
