Watched the news before and India has launched a rocket off to mars.. Well done them. Obviously I find this begs the question of the millions in aid etc we send over.

But yes. I don't understand a country which has such a disparity between rich and poor that can afford to do this.

Granted might be private investors blaa blaa and if I did understand I'd have a career in economics but still. Seems a bit odd.

Less face it, nobody in this thread gives a shit about the poor in other countries until they spend a few quid on space exploration.

The Indian governments argument is brilliant. The quality of life for millions has improved because of the satellite's they have put in space.....cut to a video of a mud shack with a coat hanger sticking out the top and a 30 year old black and white television inside

I'm sorry, but British aid isn't due to stop until the end of 2015. On average we give £280 million a year. Or the estimate of aid for the period of 2010/2015 is approximately £1.12 billion.

Just saying like. Oh, and that doesn't include all the money from charitable sources like Oxfam, Save the Children, etc etc..

Is that £280 million a year to India?

Edit - Average of £230m.....didn't realise it was that high http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-20265583

They do then everyone moans that the are "taking all are jobs"

Also this is just a big willy waving contest between them and China is it not, trying to out do each other.

I wholly support any voyages into space but its got to be hard to take for those living in mud huts and the fact they are still receiving aid from us until 2015 definitely takes the biscuit.
