I have a standard driving licence (no endorsements) passed in February 2005.

I have the following categories:

B
B1
f k p

I am now insured on Dad's Ford Transit and have been driving it for some while. It is a MWB Medium High 2011 Transit. I believe a T350 125PS 2.2 TDCi.

Now, I've checked the Ford spec sheet and no Transit is over 3,500kgs Gross Vehicle Mass.

HOWEVER the DVLA website ( https://www.gov.uk/driving-licence-categories ) states Category B as Cars, with Category C1 being Medium Sized Vehicles, but these are classed as over 3,500kgs.

Is it just a terminology thing where a van is still classed as a car, therefore I'm ok to drive?

Yeah, it looks like they're just referring to it as a car license, as most people do, but vans are included.

You can drive anything up to 3.5T or up to 4.25T if it's disabled converted (like our school minibuses)

That's wrong - they're rare but you can get them.

As for your licence, yes you can drive a Transit T350 on B.
