I used to laugh a bit at the OTT nature of American WW2 vets and their reunions, then I watched Band of Brothers and realised I'd been a dick, they can get their medals out and wear their slightly naff jackets as much as they want as far as I'm concerned, Bastogne was one of the most harrowing things I think I've ever seen portrayed on tv, how you live through that then go back to living a normal life is incredible.

got the Band of Brothers boxset, amazing stories all of em true. Bastogne looked like one of the worst kinds of hell, no winter clothing, low ammo, surrounded, low on food and freezing to fuck all while being shelled every 5mins....... :/ bollocks to that
brave guys, didnt make 100 but he had good innings none the less, RIP
