Don't get a 2.7TDV6; the gearbox cooler is linked to the radiator; it rots the casing and floods the box with coolant-damaging the torque convertor. By the time you know it's happening, it's too late. We were quoted between £2.5k and £8k to fix. That said, our issue transpired to be a badly set up map with an issue at around 2,500rpm in 3rd and 4th. We found this because the missus mother has one the same age and model and as per every owner and magazine review, the 2.7 is woefully underpowered-however, by comparison, our's flew. In normal mode, it was equivalent to the sport box in her mum's and in sport mode, it was rapid (for its size).

Get the highest spec you can; we had a HSE and it came fully loaded; as a vehicle, it was great and we used it for a couple of trips to the alps. Comfortable and for its size economic on a motorway run sitting at 70-75mph, we would push 32mpg.

Blank off the EGR valves as well as they are another common issue and blanked off improves economy.

Paint seems soft; ie it marks, swirls and scratches easily.

Errrm, can't think of anything else just now.

Make sure the suspension works correctly; raises and falls-if you set off in the raised or lowered positions and accelerate to 20mph+ you should get a warning to slow down or the vehicle will raise/lower to the mid setting automatically and after a few seconds, you should see the suspension reset itself to normal ride height.

Make sure the adjuster works for the various terrain settings.

Make sure the 6th and 7th seat fold up and down and lock in both positions as the catches can break.

Make sure if it has a factory tow bar that the electrics work and that it's not seized on-they're removable with a trim piece to cover the bumper gap when they're not fitted but if they've been left on for a while, they almost rust into position and you struggle to get he fucker off.

Whats the engine alternative? The 3.0L V6 are all newer gen Disco4's.

Thanks for the points to check. Will print this off and take it with me when I go to view!

There is the 4.4L Petrol V8 but I'd consider the 3.0L D4 if you can get one in budget or failing that, make sure you get a comprehensive warranty that covers a GB failure.

Of all the cars I've owned and driven, the D3 is the one I miss most.

Dont want petrol & 3L D4 too expensive.

Looking to spend about 15k.

Can the Radiator and Oil cooler not be replaced without too much cost as a preventative measure before it rots?

not sure; worth having a look on disco3.co.uk.

We paid £15k for our's which was at the time about on the money for a 54 plate, 2.7TDV6 HSE with glass roof, factory tinted rear windows and after market side steps.

That was 2 years ago now but prices don't seem to have fallen too much so the depreciation seems to have levelled off.
