A lot are earning more than 30K on top. Many earning more than their salary for a few days consultancy.
IMO if your an MP your an MP and should not be doing other jobs. I did hear one MP justifying it saying it gave them the experience to be able to be a better MP. Fine if you need to train up because your not good enough fair enough but you should not be paid for it. Either your good enough for the job or your not, thats why you are paid not insignificant amounts of money.
That said we all know thats how it often happens, someone can be assigned i.e "MP for transport" yet know not a single thing about transportation before then
I wonder how my manager would react if I said "Oh I'm just going to spend the next couple months fridays to go work for Microsoft to improve my coding (obviously whilst you still pay me)"
