why when i put the clutch in do the revs shoot up?

wish that was the case put the clutch in at 2k to change to 3rd and the revs go up to 4.5k if i hold the clutch in for a bit

Yea, I am releasing the throttle.

Car does pull on its own if that makes any difference

Also revs on start up, (on its own)

EGR Valve. Does it do it in neutral too?

replaced twice, only on start up - before changing egr it would not idle at all

could you perhaps have a vacuum leak somewhere?

spray a load of wd40 around the lines when the engine is running and see if the note changes

On the xe a little silver clip missing on the throttle cable caused it to do something similar.

My old Corsa used to rev it's conkers off, turned out to be a fucked ECU. Hope that isn't the case for yours.

Normally indicates the ECU is seeing a lean condition.

Had it checked for leaks at local garage when it originally broke down - didn't find any, but may be worth giving it a go

Depends what's causing it. Anything that means you have more air that is desired, or less fuel.
