you either use a plugin box or its a piggy back chip, you cant accidentally de-tuine it.

On alot of cars, gains can be made by editing the sofware on the ECU - where hardware is added. This can be reversed by reinstalling ecu software which is sometimes carried out by dealers.

my dads audi gained 61 bhp from an ecu remap, its a new chip though, not a modified standard one.

who sell these "add on ones"? Are superchips ones add ons? Cos im guesin i just take it off if i needed to?
