Here's to another 20 years (at least) without us losing an F1 driver.

Wouldn't hurt for Maldonado to break a leg or two

I'm going to Hell for sure.

Aug 93 to Aug 94 was probably the defining period of modern f1, starting with zanardis leg breakers at Spa, Lehto and Lamy in testing at Silverstone, Barrichello/Ratzenberger/Senna at Imola, Wendlinger on the very next raceday, Verstappen at Budapest and actually Hakkinen at Adelaide

Was an awful time to watch F1, everytime someone crashed etc you feared the worst Imola shoudl have never gone ahead after Barrichello and Ratzenbergers accidents

Just watched senna.

The way he talks about his life not yet being complete and how he has only lives half his life was awful to listen to, knowing he'll never get that chance.

Scary also how relatively ''minor'' Roland's and aye tons crashes were compared to what we've seen in modern times and they were fatalities. Amazing work Sid Watkins must've done.

Good call.

I adored Senna, but seeing all over FB, Senna this, Senna that, it was like, yeah, what about Roland?

Was a bad weekend for F1 in general at Imola back then. Just shows how safe F1 is these days really.

Shame HANS wasn't mandated beforehand, it would probably have saved Roland, possibly Ayrton too

Didn't Senna die because he got clonked by part of the suspension structure? Not sure HANS would help with that.

It's difficult to speculate but if the projectile knocked him out and the impact broke his neck, it would probably not have happened with HANS, he may has survived the impact with a concussion.

John, I'm using an iPhone, Ratzenberger is harder to type with fat fingers.

if by clonked you mean had his brain punctured by a suspension rod, then yes.

ostensibly because one was the greatest driver to ever live and the other was participating in his 3rd GP...
