Been a long old while since I've bought a monitor... but it's time for a little upgrade.
What's the latest technology out there? Cost isn't an issue within reason! Want one that actually looks nice in its design too if possible
No connections will be used other than the HDMI slot. Oh and the source it'll be attached to can run a maximum resolution of 2560x1600.

Best for what? Gaming? Photography? Graphics design? Movies? Porn? Facebook?
Latest main stream technology would be OLED, but so far it's far from the best at anything but being thin.

And why only 21,5"?
Wouldn't want a monitor smaller than 24", personally.

Well all I will do on that screen is general browsing. When I say 'best' I mean just in terms of colour saturation, deep blacks etc. I have a Samsung monitor atm and it's awful! Has lines all down the screen when looked at from certain angles.
Reason for size is that my Samsung is 20" and tbh it's pretty much perfect for me. I've used bigger and didn't like them, too overbearing for me... then I tried a 21.5" iMac and thought it was a absolutely spot on.
What's IPS? Kept seeing that thrown about a while back. This seems a really good price but not sure if it's any good!

You don't need the best screen to avoid lines when viewing from an angle, you just need one that isn't broken.
IPS is a panel technology and is superior to TN panels (like the one in your link) in terms of viewing angle and colour reproduction.
VA panels are (roughly) a step between the two and offer some great panels without the extended viewing angle of IPS.
If you liked the iMac then you're absolutely not after the best screen. The iMac screens are horribly oversaturated and usually running too much contrast.
Most people will find a correctly calibrated screen to be way too dull.
Deep blacks are a general weak point on most computer monitors, but you don't honestly need it. I can't remember ever browsing the internet and being struck by the lack of ultra deep blacks.
I'd personally be looking at Dell screens, they're usually very decent. U2312HM seems to get great reviews, so maybe see if they do a 21" version of that.
On a budget, BenQ screens generally aren't terrible, but I'd be reading reviews and/or looking closely at one before buying as they do make the occasional dog.
Right now I'm actually struggling to find a single 21,5" screen that isn't a TN panel.
But then again, if all you do is browse the web I'd just get the cheapest one and be done with it.

Acer G227HQL and Philips 227E4Q are both 21,5" with ISP panels.

Cheers buddy, Acer looks good @ under £100 from Dabs...
When I say I liked the iMac screen, I was literally only referring to the size, nothing else particularly however you may have a point as I have pretty bad eyes and prefer it when things seem to 'pop' out the screen if that makes sense.
Shame they don't make a more modern version of this anymore, love the look!

Makes perfect sense and honestly in that respect you're just like everybody else. Myself included.
I work with my MBP next to a calibrated pro-monitor and while the monitor gives me an exact representation of how everything looks, for personal use I prefer the vivid picture of the MBP.
And that Dell monstrosity looks horrible!

Been recommended these two as well, must admit the bezels look amazing! ASUS looking like it could be a winner though as I've never even heard of the other make?

Good! Samsung are awful, that's what I have atm...
Dell UltraSharp look good too but I don't think they do the slim bezel version in 21.5".

Ordered the ASUS and it came today, it's very nice actually... but, it's wonky when you tighten the bolt that goes into the base it goes on the piss. Difference between one end to the other is about a centimetre. Could probably live with it if I didn't have OCD lol darn it.

LG and Samsung build quality has become a bit cheap and nasty i have found. Some of the cheap brands look more appealing at the moment to myself.

Why are you buying the cheaper brands instead of dells when you've just being bleating in the noip thread about being tight?
