"The kit - which is still a prototype - costs £1,000 and is being targeted at developers“ - reads to me as ‘come and develop for our half finished product and pay 3 times what consumers will have to pay when we release it’.
I'll wait.

It's not because it's new, it's because they don't want non-devs buying it.

Lol at Ash being a fanboy.
Surely you should be right into stuff like this Ash? Writing angry birds for iPhone doesn't have great longevity.

I'm very keen to write apps for it but not paying £1000 for the privilege when I can just wait and get one for the same price as everyone else.
If they only want developers buying them they could just have you proove you're a developer and sell it to you for a non-inflated price.

But that's what their doing, if you're a serious developer then you'll invest in the platform and hardware, if you're then you don't (and moan about it instead ). It's no different to developing for other platforms, tbf developing in general.

A grands nothing compared to the cost of developing a new app from scratch. You spend that ~10x over on computers for your team of developers to start with.

Yeah I guess £1000 is pocket change for a big company, shame about indies though.

So you're fine spending that to develop for iOS (iPhone is £600/700 etc) but it's expensive when it comes to other platforms?

Apple didn't sell me the iPhone £1000 then release it to everyone else for £500 after I'd made them apps for it.

I'd walk around looking like a prick for £100, but £1,000? Nah... not saying it's not worth it, just no need for me at this point in time.
