Does anyone know about thing about Google Play private channels?
https://support.google.com/a/answer/2494992
In short, I have an android app that I plan to push out to a large number of employees.
If you host the app outside of the play store, it makes updating a pain.
Google appear to offer a private channel for businesses to post their apps but only to employees.
Im assuming that the app would then only be available to other users signed up to the google apps services?
I don't mind paying for the services for one or two users, but not in the numbers I need just to push the updates out.

Have you looked at using a MDM product/service? Most of them allow you to push apps out to devices without the need for OS app stores.

Actually, I have been.
The interface is amazing, very simple and easy to use.
The information on each device is also amazing but.... they don't allow you to remotely install 3rd party apps (only apps within the andoid store).
The best they offer is to stick the app in a 'Backpack', which essentially just synchronises a file onto the device in the 'Backpack' section.
It doesn't install or initiate an install.

Ahhh sheeeeeeet. I use it at work to manage the 65 iPads I seem to have sprouted. It's far from perfect but, it's free and it makes management a lot easier
