Looking to replace a 52 plate Corsa C 1.2 SXI with something slightly bigger (but still a hatchback), diesel and newer.

I have been looking at Golf's, Mazda3's and Focus's around 04-08 and mostly under 100k.

I prefer the Golf's looks, brand, resale value and reliability.
I prefer the Focus's price/features ratio, still reliable and looks good enough.
I prefer the Mazda's price/features ratio the best, again still reliable and looks good enough.

Can someone with more knowledge than me advise me on what to get or what to avoid even if its something I haven't mentioned (as long as it's same size/price/fuel type)?

should be able to pick up a decent Fabia VRS or Octavia L+K for £4k.

Golf wise 4k is enough to get you into a MK5, avoid the early 2.0PD's in the MK5 though, better to stick with the 1.9s.

Focus is a great car though, they drive really well, 1.6TDCI's are prone to blowing turbo's if oil changes arent kept up to, and have seen a few 1.8's do ECU's in around 120k, 2.0TDCI titanium would be a good choice though
