I have a pioneer Vsx 521 and it's developed a problem where 'temp' will flash up then the volume will drop bit, then it'll do it again a while after and I'm guessing until the volume got to zero.

I can't find anything online about the problem so anyone got any ideas?

Also this is under normal listening volumes not even driving it hard.

The manual says the temperature is too high in the unit. And it cautions you to leave 40cm above the unit, and 20cm at either side and rear.

It does it when I've just switched it on so not warm at all so I don't think it's actually over heating.

I'd disconnect the power for a bit see it resets. Otherwise, the protection circuit is out kaput.
