Yeah. The chap who rebuild it the 2nd time before I purchased it used a v7 bottom end in her which turned out to be far more reliable indeed.
I ran her at 321 wheel hp and 1.4 bar for 6 years without any [engine] issues.

Surely not original. Ultra low miler or rebuild(s)?
Just a bog standard uk turbo so only 220bhp. Never been re built but does have Fsh and 85k on the clock
If you don't mod them much and look after them they go on forever. There are loads of 150k +ones nocking about that have never been re built.

So many things to be said here but I really can't be arsedas most people's opinions are already set in stone.
Like any used car though it's a gamble...If he's keeping it get it forged and ramp it up to 300hp and you'll have a solid car for many years to come.

If I was spending a fucking fortune getting it forged, I'd want more than 300bhp

You say that like it is a simple procedure. To buy a car and then spend a small fortune installing forged engine parts is a large and committed undertaking. Besides, achieving only 300hp from a forged engine build would be a monumental let down.

It's all internet drama anyway. I've had two classics and two blobs, and my dads had a blob, a hawk 2.5 and the 2014 saloon 2.5 STI and (touch wood) neither of us have had anything major. About my only complaint would be the suspension in the blobs. Brilliant cars, wouldn't keep getting them otherwise. I've had an X5 too where the gearboxes always shit themselves and guess what, didn't happen. Like any car, look after them and they'll look after you.
