Just bought an Astra SXI for the missus from a garage locally. Being that this is the first time I've bought a car since the tax changes last year I have a query.

Because you need the V5C/2 New Keeper Supplement to tax the car, are you now meant to tax the car at the garage when you pick it up or can you drive it straight home and do it at home?

I thought you had to do it at the place you're buying it from, although my dad drove my brothers motor back and then did it at home.

Your choice I guess. Depends how far away you live from the seller.

https://www.gov.uk/car-tax-disc-without-v11-reminder

Options are,
- Online
- Over the phone
- At a post office

To do it over the phone or online you just need the new keeper part of the log book. (Obviously the car needs to be insured and MOT'd too)

I bought a car and went to tax it and it was only coming up 5 months worth of tax due to the date in the month. I waited one day and got the full 6 months the robbing bastards

Ok so I picked the new car up on Saturday and taxed it on the garage blokes laptop. Amateurish on my part but I didn't get a print off of the confirmation after it was done and simply drove off.

Checked the Tax database on the Gov. website today and it says Untaxed How long does it take to get this updated?

Bring back the old method!

You do it over the phone.. You can still do it in the post office too..

However you can only setup a DD payment online.
