Went and stayed in my dads caravan Sunday night and whilst I've been looking for a van come across plenty of campervans.
Although it will be a while before I'm in a position to get one I was wondering how insurance worked.
For instance if I took a transit or a transporter and threw a rock and roll bed and few other bits in the back do I then change it on the log book or just declare it as a mod to insurance?
And who insures something like that?

Ask on some of the VW sites, loads of info on there. You can get it changed on logbook by all accounts.

My truck was insured as a camper when I had it on the road, was a special policy for a self-build and they allowed 6 months where you could use it without having declared it as converted.
I believe the official way is to have pictures and a specific list of items in order to fully qualify although as I'm yet to do it I'm not yet fully clear.
Mine was with these - http://www.highway-insurance.co.uk/products/specialist-vehicle-insurance

Mines a Motor Caravan on the V5 and as such I can use motorhome/camper van insurers which makes it BLOODY CHEAP to insure
To change the vehicle designation on the V5 it needs to meet the criteria set out by the DVLA (bed, seating area, table, cooker, windows etc.) and you need to provide photo evidence.

Sorry to steal the thread thunder, but may be helpful.
Davey, Ive re registered my Convoy as a motorhome, who do you use to insure? Will my current insurance go down if I tell them? (directline)
OP - re registering can be a ball ache as DVLA make up there own rules, that change depending on the chaps desk your letter lands on
