Getting bored of the Corsa now as I want something faster and with insurance up for renewal in February I thought 2 years no claims I thought I'd look into the possibility of another car.
Really fancy putting in a C20XE or B204 into my corsa but it is a daily and getting someone I trust to do the work without megabucks makes it hard for it to be a possibility.
Not a fan of finance or lease deals, so have been looking at a more grown up car like the Audi A3 mk1/mk2's but don't really have a good guess on issues/service costs with them.
Anyone care to help point me in a direction to something faster without ripping my wallet in half with insurance prices?

I have a mk1 Leon Cupra as a daily ... fast enough (220bhp / 270Nm) with a simple remap and very comfortable to drive. Very reliable and has been wallet friendly.

A3 mk1, terrible electrics, windows won't work, high mileages, But overall not a bad car.
Mk2 stay clear of the 2.0 petrol or tdi, go for the 1.9tdi if wanting a diesel, also suffer from massive mileages.

I think I will keep the B if I don't break it and so that it's just finding someone to help and where to put/do it

There is a an A3 mk1 near me with 70k mileage but it's only £695 and from a dealer so something is in the back of my mind thinking there's something wrong
Never really thought about Leon's but I'll see how my insurance likes it

What's the spec on the 4Mo? The rest are either too pricey or not my cuppa, especially the Z4 as I'm 6'2 and too lanky for it lol

Not sure on your budget but I've just bought a mk4 golf anniversary and I love it so far. The 1.9td engine is great and plenty fast enough for town driving.
Looks wise I prefer them over the old A3s. How old are you? Civic type R and that sort of thing too expensive to insure?

Think the 4mo golf is a v6 with about 200bhp. 4mo makes it quite thirsty on fuel and not the most exciting car.

20 with 2 years no claims so the hot hatches like Type R's and that are silly money on insurance still

4motion doesn't make it thirsty on fuel,
Normal driving it's just like any other fwd car with probably only a slight amount of extra drag.
More the fact it's a 2.8 litre n/a petrol engine.

How much do they weigh? Is it much more than a fwd golf?

2.8 damn, that's double my Corsa
I'm quite inclined towards something with boost, the mk1 1.8 turbo was the main model of the A3 I fancied

I went from a 1.4 corsa sport to the 2.9 corrado, what amazed me most was the insurance wasn't much more. I was 25yrs though, corrado was for my 25th birthday.

Corrado's seem to be hard to get hold of now, only 7 on autotrader in the whole country, with 2 being VR6's!

Not a vast amount more, there's less than 150kg weight on the extra drive train, I can lift a rear diff assembly and cradle by myself, and I'm no he man, hollow prop and transfer box.
As a guess.
I can touch 35-40 mpg in my s3 which weighs more again.

I went from 1.0L Corsa to 2.0L 206 and the insurance was only about £100 more.

good power and torque with a simply stage 1. makes all the fast clios and type r's look silly due to good torque.
