Android boxes are all much alike tbh although from past experience, whilst you have access to a load of apps, the standard variant (not Android TV) of Android is a bit cumbersome when using it with a TV.

Whilst the RPi is a good bit of a kit, you are limited with the plugins you can install under Kodi, ie - no Netflix/Amazon, Demand 5, Channel 4 On-Demand etc (not without going down the PlayOn route, which is a little pointless due to needing another system and the added cost of a PlayOn license).

I've been knocking out Amazon Fire sticks with Kodi and the best addons on for people at work in exchange for a couple of beers... Still got far too many crates in the garage
Cheapest way to do it tbh, although the sticks are far from powerful they'll cope with pretty much anything you can throw at it
