spoke to insurance, and tried to get quote on new wheels, they asked me what wheels were on the car I thought if they go by reg they already know eg 1.4 design has 16inch design wheels, etc

But they quoted me double my premium if I add 17 inch wheels!

and I told them what I had, should of lied and said I had 215/45/17s and wanted to add 18s! lol

But honestly, bummer! insurance is 350 they said even If I change my current tyres, my premium would double! so I have to pay 350 to add wheels! lol

Can't say I have ever heard of an insurance company doubling premiums because you change tyres. Although I do agree with this as there are a lot of dangerous road users driving about with budget tyres on that could be a hazard waiting to happen. Why should these people be insured for the same price as me with my michelins? They shouldn't. But it does happen. Makes me angry when I see people with a half decent/expensive car and they only have £30 budget tyres on. I was asked for a 295/35/21 budget tyre for a Porsche yesterday. Ridiculous.

21s on a Porsche? id like to see that!

it ridiculous, but don't think I can get out of insurance yet, will look into it.

But in all honesty an automatic corsa d, 1.4 is not something you can crash! specially not around a small town like mine. if anything 225s should be enough to avoide accidents, wont make the car go any faster!, If anything might slow it down, but increase breaking power.

I dont drive like a boyracer, especially as I have a sub cranked up, cant feel the car so have to be careful.

Ask Ian if it helps the site, if people come here for help least they will find it in my threads without having to read 20 pages to get the answer!

A budget tyre will decrease your braking ability.

21s come standard on some model porches.

The braking distances of a cheap budget compared to a mid range will be quite a bit. Spend more and be safer. It's not just your life at risk. It's the other road users around you also.

I would have thought you would have been insured with a special wizarding insurer.
