Anybody have experience with car warranties? I'm after buying a car that could end up being costly if and when something breaks. The cars im looking at are 2007 with around 70-80k on them.
I know a lot of companies don't like to pay out and make you take it to the dealers and pay £200 an hour just to check it and then they might pay to fix it. I'm wanting a no hassle company that actually pays for any problems.
I take it the car will always have to have dealer or specialist services or else it'll be void.
Any experience or advice appreciated.

WarrantyFirst ive got on the discovery and they have paid out around 2/3k in repairs so far.
New Front Wishbones
New Turbo, and other parts
Servicing as long as its in line with the dealer and you have an invoice thats all you need. On the M5 i have warranty from BMW for all parts apart from wear&tear

I was given a warranty with a car purchase last year. I thought great, free warranty. I didn't actually need to use it but upon reading T&Cs, maximum claim was £1,000, which doesn't get you far at a main dealer these days.
I've heard people getting into a bunfight with their warranty company over sensors; asking the garage or dealer to bench test the sensor to prove it's defective.
My advice would be to stick with the big names for warranty provider. I've had good feedback from the one Quimtin Wilson advertises on the telly.
As VRS says, just keep your servicing up to date and as per OEM intervals and you shouldn't have a problem, in general.

You dont need to get them repaired at main dealers though. Any VAT registered garage can do the repairs

If you are worried about the cost of repair I would suggest you are dreaming that you can afford the car.

If its an M5 make sure the clutch is done else you'll need to splash out 1500 to get it done.

Surely working out if a warranty will be cheaper than fixing the car yourself is well worth looking at for a financial point of view and not just because I may or may not be able to afford to fix it.
Thanks for the replies, if I did go ahead with one I will use a main company, just wasn't sure which ones people use but I'll check out the ones that have been mentioned.
Any rough prices per year? I don't mind taking a risk with the repair bills but if a warranty looks good and isn't too much then it's definetly something to think about.

All depends on the car mileage etc its all dependant on different things if its an expensive car the warranty wont be cheap

That makes sense. I'll get in touch with some of the companies and see what they say. I need to decide what car to get first
Always had older cars which never seem to break but you look at any newer BMW or Merc and they're full of things that go wrong and end up being costly. Would be nice to have some cover but obviously if it's going to be a few thousand a year then I'll just take the risk.

What mileage is yours on? I know it wasn't cheap when you bought it.

Quentin Wilson does warranties. Seen him in the telly. Think he comes round and fixes the car personally.

80k now done 108k in just under 18months warranty is up till 120k
