why does it happen in every other scene but the Vauxhall one?

You get 80s and 90s Hondas with K20s in, old Peugeots with 306/206 engines, Renault 5s with Clio 172/182 engines, all manner of fords with duratecs, every new engine under the sun in VAG stuff.

So why is it that with Vauxhall, people use two versions of a nearly 30 year old engine in everything still? Everyone ignores the new, aluminium stuff like the z22se, a20net and so on, seems really odd!

They're not though, the ones based on z22se architecture, used in saabs and so on are a decent engine, weigh less than the older stuff, you can get them cheaper than the old ones which demand a premium

Good question, maybe because the older stuff was making decent reliable power back in the 80's and 90's? I'm pretty sure the old CVH turbos from the RS Turbos aren't very reliable once you start upping the power (could be wrong though).

Old Golfs are always running the 1.8T but that is like the 20XE of the VAG world, stuffed in loads of models, easy conversion and they are ten a penny.

Actually seen a few Nova's with Corsa VXR conversions being done so maybe the tide will turn over the next few years once that engine becomes readily available?

There's probably a feeling that the newer stuff will be more difficult to wire up, indeed none of the ones you list use a CAN system in the rest of the car?

Vauxhall scene seems to be take a year 2000 car and fit an 80's engine to it

I've seen old Golfs with 2.0 TFSIs, TTRS 5 cylinders, all sorts of very new stuff, not just 1.8ts

a lot of the VAG stuff would be CAN originally and people manage with that, TTRS engine in a mk2 golf for example.

there has also been a couple of corsa b's fitted with z22se engines and theres a few older models with this engine type, nova, chevette, cavalier.

The older engines are just simpler and have less to go wrong essentially, apart from the fundamental parts. If the combination works well, there's probably no need to explore other avenues. Pulling an old engine to rebuild is more simple and cheaper than trying to repair a new one. Maybe the Vauxhall owners are wiser by not trying to fit newer engines?

I put a 2004 engine in a 1996 Corsa....

I've always fancied a classic Opel GT 2000 with the running gear and axel from an Omega or even a Monaro

....Oh and the answer to your question is lots of JDM cars didn't have ECU immobolisers until quite recently so the conversions were much, much easier..

Your 2004 engine has it's roots in the early 90s in DOHC form though

Whats your definition of a modern engine then Robin? :/ every engine has 'roots' somewhere.

I don't know, I just wouldn't class the Z18XE as a modern engine, the same as I don't class the C20XE as one.

Basically, what I'm saying is the Ford scene seems to have started to move on from the Cosworth YB to the Duratec in mk2 Escorts, the Vauxhall crowd only bother with the C20XE

also, regarding roots, the K20 and Duratec have their roots in the last millennium at least
