There seems to be a lot of negativity on Social Media about Christmas this year. It got me thinking of the pro's and con's and to be honest I think the Con's outweigh the Pro's and make this time a complete ball ache.
So do you love Christmas? hate it? or indifferent?
A few things that come to mind
CONS :
- Christmas is magical if you have kids, it's all about them right? if you don't have kids its a bit meh.
- Christmas is all lovey and cosy if you are in a relationship, if not its a bit meh
- If you have little friends or family then its a awfully lonely time of year
- Day to Day life becomes a complete headfuck from mid November onwareds. The population start panicing and lose all common sense, spatial awareness and just become retarded for 6 weeks. examples of this are you go to the supermarket just to do a usually weekly shop and its full of people stressing and losing their shit like they are stocking up for the apocalypse. Fat birds with pushchairs and 4 screaming kids fighting over sprouts.
Standard of driving goes down to retarded levels, traffic is x 5 and you can't park ANYWHERE.
- Christmas adverts being shoved down your throat from early November in some cases! Also what is it with all the Sofa adverts? get a sofa in time for Christmas? u wot m8?
- Christmas songs on the Radio, probably not as bad as before as there are hundreds of DAB channels you can listen to that don't have them.
PROS :
- You get presents!
- Lots of decent grub around, usually bad for you bet hey its a treat.
- Uhm... struggling to think of many pro's... baby jesus maybe?
- Credit card companies make a killing as people spend money they don't have as they conform to pressure of western society to show your love with expensive gifts. Good for the Economy (short term)
I've made my mind up its a fucking shit time of the year if you are a miserable single cunt like myself

Don't have kids, I love Christmas day and the few days immediately surrounding it but hate the build up. Spending money on other people is not so much the issue, but I know all I'm buying them 9 times out of 10 is crap, so our family have just gravitated towards cash/voucher type presents the last few years which is a bit anti-climatic on Christmas day, but at least it's useful.
Love cooking and having people round, we've hosted the last 4 years now and really couldn't be arsed going somewhere else anymore.

Kyle you must get on with your family quite well if you host and enjoy the occasion?
It feels very forced when my family get together, no arguments thankfully but it usually results in my step mum telling us hour long stories about how her friend Mavis got lost around the ring road whilst everyone pretends to look interested.
I think its important to be around loved ones though, be it friends or family. I had 2 Christmases in Thailand and stayed in the most amazing resort right on the beach. However it completely sucked and was the loneliest I had ever been on Christmas, you really cannot beat being at home.

Yeah we get on pretty well, all fairly local which means we don't have many "forced" occasions to get together, so everyone appreciates the Christmas get togethers I think.
We had one year off last year actually, totally forgot about it. Our local pub was closing so we went there for dinner as a final sesh. Was great, food spot on - but prefer being at home on balance.

It's what its all about I guess!
I get annoyed at my step mum but then I try to imagine what it would be like to have zero family at Christmas which sadly is a reality for some people.

My kid's just turned 2 and it's so much fun this year... I've always liked Christmas to be honest, but it did start to lose it's magic a bit when the family started getting too big and drifted apart
I'm now definitely someone who prefers the food to the presents. Never managed to get pissed though, think it's just spreading it out too much throughout the day!

I like to pick and choose the good bits.
Ditto the bit about everyone else turning in to a self-absorbed nobhead in the shops.
Most annoying bit is its like being sacked in work. Can't post anything, can't buy anything and no one spends any money anyway because they think you're closed.
One of these years I'm going to get my shit together and go on holiday for two weeks, can't earn money so I may as well spend it.
