Have you got all the wires connected up???
If the light isn't comming on that would mean a problem with the power wire, so maybe the fuse has blown. otehr than that check the remote wire is connected up.

if the remote wire is not connected up right does that mean the power will not be on if the power cable is fitted properly?

the remote wire tells the built in amp to switch on when you turn the headunit on, you wouldnt want the bass box on all the time would you

well you should have crimped the remote wire to the remote wire on the headunit loom, it doesnt matter if you havent as long as it is making a connection. The wire in ur headunit loom should have been blue or blue/white.
Where have you connected your ground lead mate
