I'm saving for a 2nd hand Black 16v 1.6 corsa sport.

I'm moving into a new house in 2 months so the car will be kept outside this house. the problem is my mate parked his car outside this house and his car was broken into. It wasn't even done up, a 5 door punto. He'd left the stereo face in the side of the door though. (stupid i know).

I'd never do that, but i know my car will be a target as i want to do it up to the max.... what can i do to make it very very hard to break into?

delock - what does this do?
Whats a quality alarm - i'd be prepared to spend £200 - 400
Also any other tips. as i don't want the doors pulled open from the pillars.

I may not buy a newer car now and just driver around in a old car not done up or anything. although i've been saving since christmas and it's been a dream to own a modded car and now i feel it may be a bad idea

How much for delocking the car, what does it involve? just removing the visual exterior locks? Also how do you get into your car??

Delocking usually means replacing the front door handles with vectra rear door handles so there's no lock...

To get in you just need an alarm with remote central locking. MOT requires you have at least one mechanical form of entry I think though -- i.e. the boot

Dont get 6x9's or if you do put them on a stealth shelf so they cant be seen.

Get a decent CAT1 alarm from the likes of Toad or Clifford.

You could put a gate on the drive if you can, deterant.

Security light over the car.

A real/fake CCTV camera.

Tie a dog up outside each night.

Sleep in the room nearest to the car so you can hear the alarm.

Put one of those covers over the car and then alarm it, someone moving the cover would set the alarm off if the sensitivity is up.

Make sure people can tell you have a good alarm in it.

Put locking wheel nuts on.

Security tint the windows so its harder for theives to get in.

Put a stop lock on the wheel and the gear shift/hand brake.

Get a removable steering wheel.

Thats all I can think of I am afraid.

Another good thing to do is.... If you have a decent system dont show it off in the area, a friend of mine told me about this as he said he knows people who break into cars for their systems, and its so easy to know if they've got a system if they're showing it off where they live. I'd also get a very good alarm that beeps every time someone comes near the car, then theifs should be deterred
