if mounting 6x9s under the shelf, i.e. not showing off 2 public
do the 6x9 holes need to be cut into the board or is it ok for the 6x9s just o hang below the sheet of wood

cut holes m8, then cover with acoustic material so they cant be seen

what i did was
1. cut holes
2. screw some mdf to the bottom of the shelf, screwed from the top, its got 2 layers so double thickness in some places.
3. cover the holes with stretched tights to stop the material sagging.
4. feed the speaker wires through the shelf and put a plug on them so its easy to remove.
5. cover the shelf
6. screw the speakers into the mdf from the bottom.
