i fixed my mums rear lights on her 1989 escort 1.4, basic model. the fuses had blown, so i sorted that. bear in mind im pretty good with electrics and mechanics. anyhow, she used to work on a farm and there was these humps, and she hit one to fast and clonked the underneath of the car, and since then it has leaked oil all over the path outside and the drive sometimes. anyway while i was changing the fuses in the engine bay, i checked her oil. i checked the dipstick and it was fine. then there was a yellow cap , like more of a stopper on the main engine block on the bottom right hand corner. it just pulls out and pops in doesnt screw or clip or nothing. i pulled it out and peered inside, all i could see was like engine crud, no sign of any oil.anyhow popped the cap back in. when she came home i told her i fixed it and that i couldnt see no engine oil in the engine block. i also thought it was strange because it had stopped leaking oil all over the place. anyway i told her and she didnt seem to undertsand.
next, she took me to the hospital for my medical examination couple of weeks ago. we were going down the dual carriageway and it started making a rumbling, knocking sound. when she dropped it down to 50mph from 60. it stopped. and it was fine all the way and back.
yesterday i was with her in it, and it started this rumbling knocking sound, which only came on when she pressed the accelerator and it stopped when she let go to change gear.
this morning she picked my brother and his mate up, and on the way back, it made a massive popping sound, she stopped checked under the bonnet, and the little push in cap had gone popped off like, and there was like a black splash all over the underneath of the engine. she said she had to drive it home at 10mph because 'it feels like there is no pressure'
well i dont know whats happened, she is sayin its my fault because i didnt put the cap back on properly, when i must have cus it only pushes in like a stopper.
im thinking its more her fault because she pranged it underneath , leaking the oil which must have been the engine oil, all the oil has drained out, (over like 4 months) she hasnt filled the oil up in ages, she never had time to get it checked. and now its blown a gasket or seized or something i dont know. it still runs??
someone help so i can show her and put her right!! lol poor mum

well no offence to any woman, but my mum its hard to explain mechanics to her. she just asked how the fuel tap worked on my bike that i was fixing and it took the best part of 20 mins lol i was told that the high pressure caused by the oil leak made it pop the cap. the cap now missing. she is gonna get some more oil and a new stop cap and try again. i managed to make her realise that it wasnt my fault , it was just one of those things. last time i ever go near her car tho!! lol
cheers buddy
