Ive just put me deposit down for a pre ecotec gsi lump- its a gud price and has all driveshafts, zorst, ecu etc with it- I know the engine should just slot straight in, things worrying me are the chip that may b in the key for the engine, and the fuel pumps and pipes- can anyone shed some light? will the wiring looms be radically different?

I think you'll need the C16XE loom. The C16XE has an Air Flow Meter which I don't think the 1.2 16v had.

Yeah, no immobiliser on the c16xe, the loom is piss to fit, just a 9pin plug that should fit onto your car loom.

all GSI's had hydraulic power steering, though 1.2 16v maybe the later electronic power steering, whereas early ones have hydraulic
do u get the EPS light on your dash (inside the rev counter) when you turn the ignition?

i thought all ecotec engines ran off a map sensor as opposed to air flow meters.
hence id say looms are completely different. (i was gonna buy pre ecotec loom for my car when my loom went on fire but there different.)
anyway your buying everything with engine. and if u need the key and sure youll get it with engine - just remember to ask the seller if car had immoby.

C16XE engine is still an EcoTec engine just without EGR valve etc.
Earlier C16XE engine is the better one for tuning.
