trying to install a new HDD on to a win XP home (dont laugh!) computer, but it isnt recognising it. It shows up in the add new hardware wizard, but has no volume. Jumpers are right, cables are right, power is connected. Tried pressing delete, escape, F5, F8 and F12 during startup to get to bios, which didnt work Any ideas people? Im sure its simple, im just being a fool (although a sober one :lol

took me ages to get my new hd workin dint have clue asked loadsa peeps
think i used partition magic too in the end coz the letters were wrong

once the new hard drive is in, you need to partition it if you want to split it up then format it (just format if you dont want ti split it up). in windows2000 i use disk management which shows the disk and lets me format/partition it.

in Win XP, go to start > settings > control panel > Administrative tools > Computer management > Storage > Disk management (local).
You should see ur drive (The one u installed), and u should know what to do from there

cant see the admin settings, is that cos i have win xp home? Downloading a boot disk off microsoft now, see if i can do it through there.
