From memory, ZoneAlarm should have blocked it, as long as you've got it set on "full paranoid" mode, where it blocks everything you don't specify.

Been a while since I last used it, though, am on Norton Personal Firewall at the moment, already set up to block incoming port-135 requests, and to block all other non-regularly-used ports automatically.

go control panel > Adminastritive tools > services > then go down page until you find "Remote Procedure Call" > Right click then Properties, > Click recovery and those three boxes change to dont ake action.

Once done that go alt-ctrl-del then processes and close the process of msblast.exe , once done that go search all files and folders and search for msblast, delete the msblast.exe file. then go here for microsoft patch = http://microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=2354406C-C5B6-44AC-9532-3DE40F69C074&displaylang=en

This is on XP though

Although trying to download the file to stop the problem was a nightmare cos i kept getting cut off cos the 56k connection was so slow that the 60 second count down kept kicking in before i got all the data, took me 3 hopurs of trying

If your anti-virus software doesn't detect a worm (which IS a variant of virus), then get one that does......Mcafee VirusScan detects it (not that I've ever had the opportunity, the last time I had a virus was when I had an Amiga, pre-1996 - that's called decent anti-virus, kept up-to-date weekly or when extra patches are released, coupled with careful monitoring of any attachments that come in (ie. deleting them if they're not expected, even from friends).

And a decently set-up firewall should block port 69/135/4444 connections whether you have the virus or not.

I seem to have got it the night before anyone else... I found the process msblast.exe was running, but google didnt return any results... the virus was largly unknown at the time ...

Chose to use windows update (while i could) to download updates every time before it rebooted, eventually fucked my installation and blue screened on bootup.

So formatted.. Wish I had got infected later lol
