Just wondering if I was to get a private plate. Is cutting the numberplate down to size legal?

See below for example.

You mean as in square plate? or as in those tiny plates?

http://www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles/regmarks/reg_marks_current_requirements.htm

Before i got mine done i studied this site, and a few others, and couldnt find anything that said that there was a standard size a number plate has to be.

The site above tells you minimum margins that must be between the edge of a character and the edge of the plate. I took it that if youve got the minimum margins all around the plate, then its a legal plate .

Alex, if you still have any pictures of my old one, I had trimmed down plates, they were fine, passed 2 MOTs with them
