Defo makes a difference. I've used it for a while now (i've got to use it anyway in the ATR)and I put £40 every week. At the end of the day, its gonna cost you an extra £4 or something per tank, and it defo makes a difference. Use shell though, BP stuff is cack.

Octane rating, lubricants, cleaning properties and temperature control capability are all much better.

I reckon any new car should be run on it anyway tbh.

ok, well if it doesnt make a difference, why did i HAVE to run my carbs on it?

My bro in law's XR2 with a weber twin choke carb on it doesnt run right if he doesnt use the v-power. So...if there's no difference, explain why the carbs really need to be run on the V-Power?

Agreed, in a smaller engine you may not notice the difference, but the engine will idle and run better after a month or 2 of fill ups.

also
But why is BP stuff cack?
Carbs don't HAVE to run on super, its probably because the ignition was advanced to hell.

Apart from the fact this is 7 years old, can carbs compensate for the higher RON fuel?

You mean automatically compensate?
Carbs are "set" and don't adjust unless you adjust them, so it doesn't matter what fuel you use.

So the only reason chrex would have had to use optimax is if they were set for it, not because you can only use optimax with them.

ROFL @ old thread, hell it was almost down to that at the latter end of 2008.

Carbs? Depends on what it is set up on, if you are going to run your car on optimax 24/7 have it mapped on that, if not, have it mapped on the cheap stuff.

Even with normal driving I get a few more MPG on optimax but it doesn't warrant paying it. I am happy with crap pump juice. I run the R5 on it 24/7, it runs shit on normal octane stuff, mind you, it hasn't moved for a few months.

Well you can't really set carbs for different grades of fuel, as the adjustments would be so small ie better fuel = eg 2mpg more, so you would have to set the carbs to use 2 miles less of fuel per gallon which is nothing really.
If you have advanced ignition timing good fuel will make the engine run better, whats what I think happened, the timing was too far advanced.

advanced ignition timing + normal 95ron = poor running.

80p a litre those were the days

I always run my car on super unleaded, I don't drive every day but because I have a van for work, but it does smooth out the odd flat spot.
