Re metal around the air.
Lets say this area of metal is 1sq foot and its 100c for extreme case.
Now pass air over it at say 100mph (if you measure the speed at which the air is sucked in by the engine even on idle it really is quite fast!!!) how many degrees centrigrade is this air 100mph wind going be be heated by this piece of aluminium sheet.
By your reckoning that'd mean all F1 & WRC teams cars are fucked for hot induction temps by superconductive air lol lol lol lol lol

You'd retrofit it if one wasnt made, a filter is a filter. Though ones that are proper boxes are designed to fit better. The ITG Maxogen one on my car was £365 for the whole thing but the finish is like factory and its half the weight of all the old airbox parts. It also had brushed aluminium bracket to hold it in. The results are the two main flat spots in the k series engine being removed and the torque just bring a fairly flat curve 1500rpm to 6500rpm where it drops off. Peak power also comes 500rpm earlier. At the best point where it dipped before it adds 15lb ft of torque.

those cars are traveling all the time. road cars get stuck in traffic. if your moving all the time you don;t need a shield with a proper cold air duct. The K&N on my sporting never heated up when I was moving or even when the car had it's unchip fitted. the area around the filter was also cool

Retrofit - you make it fit.
SItting in traffic air heats up, less than one second later hot air is sucked through engine, cold air is replaced.

Its also good to have a direct tunnel of air only for the filter that comes from outside the engine bay.

filter and shield heat up. takes a while to cool down again. even carbon ones heat up and take ages to cool down again

Leave my BFO heat shield alone. It made a difference when I had it rollered.

i actually agree with vibs on this, the heat shield may work for a few mins but as soon as the engine heats up so does the heat shield. then its a waste of time.

ive got a drilled air box with a K&N panel filter and it does the job! jus removed the curved bit of piping from inside hte box too anfd it now sounds a lil bit more throaty, sounds good between 2and3000 rpm. meaty at 3-4 and then jus kinda loud from then on!well impressed!
