the cost of the repair if I paid it all is about half the value
of the car if I sold it - just not worth it; at least I know not
to buy another one

The other option is to get everything from scrappy, still got to pay
dealer to program ecu etc

but the car should never have been shipped to customers like that
in the first place; when they found the fault that's documented in
the TIS they should have done a recall to replace the faulty ecu's

Yeah, so now I'm lumbered with a 4-year old car with a sale value
of about 2 thousand that needs a thousand pound's worth of repairs
(probably more with labour - maybe 1200 or so)
that is due to a manufacturing fault that's documented in the
manufacturer's service literature!

And people wonder why I'm pissed off!!!

id be pissed off to but nothing you can do about it all cars have common problems with them if all the vauxhalls, fords, nissans ETC recalled all there cars to fix common problems then they would go bankrupt.

best thing u can do is go to scrappy and if u dont wanna pay labour do it urself

Drop a 2.0 16v in

Its a tuff call, id get the bits from a scrappy probably. Why would you need to program the ECU though if you got it off a 1.0 12v in a scrappers?

Yeah, I can do that for the sensors trouble is need TECH2 and software to
program ecu if I can find one at a scrappie, so will have to pay for
some of it. Also dunno if getting ecu from scrappy is all that smart an
idea can still spend quite a lot on it and might be faulty still better than
paying the vauxhall 'tax' I suppose.

Can I use a 1.2 l ecu in a 1l car and reprogram it? Engines are very similar
although the two ecus have different bosch numbers. But 1.2 cars seem to
be lots more common in scrappy can't find hardly any 1L cars round here and
have tried the big mailorder places they've all got 1.2 engine parts.

Yay how much would a decent 2L conversion cost me? Might not be such a bad
idea at that might even be similar cost!!!! Would I also need uprated
susp eg as engine weight is higher? Also mine doesn't have power steering
OK I could pump the front tires up to 60psi but as I'd like to survive more
than 1 mile is it going to be ultra-heavy at normal tyre pressure with the
bigger engine? Cheers for suggestion.

A guy off here did mine, Lee Mitchel. I spent just over £1500 all in. I wouldnt worry about powersteering, i didnt notice any difference and i aint got it. Uprated suspension is needed, brakes are a good idea as well

I s'pose I'm being over-optimistic hoping I could get a 2l

Do you then end up getting 15 mpg out of it and
spending 100 quid filling the tank?

Do you get any "unwanted attention" in it?
(That's one reason I got rid of the supra)

I could always leave the "12V" letters on the back
as a disguise ;-)

original fuel tank so £30 max fill up. Not sure what the mpg is but itl be the same as an Astra GTE 16v. Ive never had any unwanted attention, but then mine just looks like a standard corsa on black wheel from the outside

Yeah me bwains a bit addled tonite (is most nights aktually...
well, not just the nites, most days 2, come to think of it)

So fule not so bad and I guess power-to-weight should be quite
good corsa liter than astra so the old accelerometer shud be gud
too is it actually faster than an astra gte then? Clearly lowering
and uprated dampers essential and yeah brakes of some sort would
probably be useful. It'd be kinda neat to keep up with a scooby
in something with a "12V" badge on the back... (yeah I kno
that's unlikely but would like to see scoob driver's face!)
Has your 2l engine got a turbo???

I'll go do some reading from other people who've done the
conversion, right can you point me at a "beginnners guide to
2L corsa conversions" that summarises all the main things that
need to be done you've wetted my appetite enough to spend
another half hour reading about it...

I was finking if I could get hold of the fat-cat chief executive of vauxhall
uk I'd shove a red-hot revolving wire brush up his arse and keep it there
for a very long time while forcing him to listen to madonna "like a virgin"
over and over again...

Your car sounds like a bit of a lemon mate, like my old Corsa!

I had my old Corsa from brand new in 1998, bought it for about £9k I think, traded it in for my Astra in February this year, had 63k on the clock, only got £1500 trade in for it!

Yes, unfortunately, Vauxhall parts prices can be exhorbitant, that's why most people either buy through someone in the trade, or just buy the parts from a motor factors.
