You need to get the auto box 'serviced' to stop that happening; ie. new filters and oil, auto box specialist will probably charge at least £100 for doing this though, depends what sort of auto box it is.
People often overlook the auto gearbox as part of normal servicing procedure, thing is you only need to do it every few years, but for a small outlay, at least your gearbox won't fuck up, and you won't need to spend £1k on a recon box!

They always rust there.. if you dig away the rust you'll find the metal is solid round that area.. just repair and respray.. piece of piss and so easy to match that colour
get your autobox fluid changed and that will sort out the changes.
that stereo is a colectors item !!! The guy who does the mk2's up i was telling you about is always on the lookout for them ... hehe autoreverse four speaker stereo as standard on a 1983 car when all other cars had 'twoknobs' ..... those japs.
