they can get rid of you even if you're signed off. they can argue that they need someone to do the job you were employed for and they cant hold your job for you indefinately. you'll find they will say they need someone reliable and if you're constantly off sick its not reliable. thats what me dad told me he's a HR director

kerry not read whole thread....but...
after a time of sickness they can look to see if you are or are not capable of doing your job...if your not and in no fit condition to fulfil your employment they can terminate your contract on these grounds.
But I thought they would have to have a meeting with you not just send you a letter..So I think they are perfectly within there rights...
