if i were to upgrade my computers RAM by replacing it with 512mb SDRAM would i......
1. just plug it in and it would work staright away?
2. does it matter if i buy sdram or ddram?
3. does new ram slow down other parts of the p.c. e.h. processor
thx

1- yes, unless you are using a very old version of windows
2- yes, it depends on the rest of your system. What are the specs?
3 - no, it will speed things up!

You need to make sure your motherboard supports waht ram you are buying. DDR and SDRAM are physically different.
Once its plugged in, your bios would update to tell you it knows its there, and it will work straight away.
Yes it does matter.
And no it wont, you may not see a performance increase yourself until you have quite a few programs open ect.

i know you cant have sdram and ddram both installed at the same time, but in a fairly modern p.c. would they both fit?

You need to make sure your motherboard has SDRAM and DDR slots, because they are both physically different in the way they connect to the board.

If you need to find out open your case, SDRAM slots are usually black/grey/beige. DDR slots will be blue.

open up the PC (when off!), take out of of the sticks or ram and see what it says on the side. If the other slots are the same as the one you took the stick from, then it will only accept that type of RAM. My computer downstars accepts both, but not simultaneously.
