You have to earn over a certain amount to be taxed, not sure how nuch though??

You can tell from your tax code, say if it's something like 461L for instance, you are allowed to earn £4610 before being taxed on your wages.

Just make sure the person whos paying you in cash isnt declaring it. I work as an accountant and deal with the Inland revenue all the time. There right sneeky bastards!! They will take all the names of people who work for businesses that will have part time staff like pubs and garages and stuff like that and check to see if the employee is declaring the income. They can also demand the full names and addreses of the person in question.

2nd jobs are always taxed at 22% (Basic Rate) and then, if come 5th April, you have paid too much, you should be sent a refund... emphasis on the word should!!

^^ No, most are thick tho... in my extensive experience of dealing with them they r jus plebs (the ones at the end of the phone, not necy the inspectors)

I think your point is backed up there by an ex-employee of the IR saying you dont pay tax until you earnings are over £4800
