You are making stuff up now.

What I said was blu-ray will be much more widespread and about for much longer than you said it would be, next few years at least.

Anybody who is buying a blu-ray player will have an lcd and surround sound, more and more people do now and eventually everybody will have, same as everybody went out and bought dvd-players and widescreen tv's originally.

You were 100% wrong, again, stop making up arguments that aren't there.

You can have another shot and be wrong again with the next technological breakthrough.

At the moment it's my opinion that it will be if not as widespread it'll be nearly as widespread as dvd yes.

Quote me all you want, if you go and find the posts from about a year ago and find my quotes you'll find out they were almost all correct.

I'd agree with that, but there are loads of places wont get broadband untill past 2015. Even these places aren't garaunteed to have it by then

I know it's a small percentage, but it's all new built estates with younger people living there - the type of people who are likely to spend extra on films/gadgets

the only current issue with downloading is DRM.

You cant download a film, take it round a mates and watch it, or bring a few vids round the misus gaff to watch, until theres a decent legal way around DRM, it wont take off like shop sales do.

and all those with an elite with 120gb harddrive will be loving the extra downloadable media

As a storage medium don't you think Blu-ray is good? Size of a CD and stores 25Gb a layer? It's not like the market is flooded with optical media, CD and DVD have the market I don't see a problem with having a new HD media for people who own HDTVs. Which would you rather do, take a disc round a mates to watch or take your Xbox?

I rememeber when CD and DVD came out first and they where so expensive that only the rich child in schools parents had one.

Price I do not think is an issue as it will drop as it becomes a widespread medium.

Just like DVD players at one time they where about 10 times more than VHS but a few years down the line when cheaper brand names got involved they where cheaper than them.

Have recently purchased and watched a movie on bluray I can see them being around at least for the next 5 years.

you're missing the point jodi, dvd was a massive leap from vhs, it offered so much more, so progression into it making it into everyones homes eventually was inevitable.

bluray offers a clearer picture, that is it, the medium is the same size, the players are the same size, theres just not enough revolutionary stuff to get everyone wanting one

No but the manufactures will soon tail off regular DVD player, recorder production or dedicate more time into producing/updating the Blueray hardware. Overtime with mass production increasing, demand and price drops it will soon be the norm to have one and pick up a cheapo version at your local Asda.

No I agree downloading of some form will be the media used in about 10 years, but speeds are still to slow to make it an option yet and disk space although cheaper is still expensive, when your taking a whole dvd collection (although DVD's would cost more, you do not look at it that way)

Time will tell I guess. People want legit movies they buy DVDs, if they want legit HD movies there is Blu-ray. No other choice at the moment. I first heard of Blu-ray in 1999, and I beleive the 'Blue' laser was developed by Pioneer in the mid-90's. So I can't see a new format coming out anytime soon!
